Hacks Season 3 Review Reuniting for Laughs and Growth

Hacks Season 3 started filming in November 2022.

Highlights

  • The creators started writing Hacks Season 3 long ago in May 2022.
  • The last episode of the third installment is set to release on May 30.
  • The production of the Season 3 of Hacks was rescheduled twice.

Hacks Season 3 follows the complex, love-hate relationship between veteran comedian Deborah Vance and young comedian writer Ava Daniels.

Despite two production delays, with one being caused by actress Jean Smart’s heart surgery, Season 3 finally debuted on Max in early May.

The series features captivating character growth and witty lines and has been filmed in several locations, including Angeles National Forest for “One Day,” i.e., episode five.

Hacks Season 3 continues to impress with its willingness to tackle tough subjects while keeping the audience hooked with relatable characters.

The series’ third installment remains popular with critics, with maximum positive reviews and ratings.

Although the first season didn’t achieve a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, Season 3 has a 96% Fresh rating, with only one negative review out of 37.

Nina Metz, a top critic from the Chicago Tribune, with a rating of 3.5 out of 4, detailed her critical analysis of the third installment of the series. She wrote,’

“Hacks” is more or less doing variations on the same story each season, but it’s doing it in interesting ways, and the brass ring of a late-night talk show gig is a juicy arc onto which this toxic pattern can play out once again.

Similarly, Joel Kelly, a Decider reviewer, expressed his take on the new season, writing that the show continues to deliver its storyline while maintaining its quality.

He also mentioned that although Deborah and Ava aren’t working any longer, the show still manages to keep them emotionally connected.

Speaking of audience review, a user named Todd P wrote that, despite initially being skeptical, the ending changed his narrative to positivity.

To sum up, Hacks Season 3 outdid itself this season, receiving the maximum positive response and rating from both the audience and critics.

Undeniable Writing with Thematic Depth in Hacks Season 3

As a reviewer from Belmont Film House, for me Hacks Season 3 left no crumbs with its smart writing and sharp humor while retaining the show’s top-notch quality.

Coveted reviewer Judy Berman of TIME magazine also lauded the show’s strong, engaging storytelling.

It won’t be fair enough if we don’t give a big round of applause to the creators for cleverly keeping the two characters emotionally connected regardless of changing their professional relationships.

While Devorah and Ava remain the central focus, this season also highlighted themes like life goals, aging, and challenges in the entertainment industry.

Given her growing age, Devorah is challenged to stay relevant in a rapidly changing entertainment industry.

Thanks to the creators for including such a thematic touch, like Devorah’s journey, which shows the struggles of older entertainers to maintain their status.

Having said that, Season 3 didn’t entirely go off its genre; it stayed true to its comedy while maintaining a genuine emotional depth in human lives.

The introduction of new dynamics and challenges really did keep the series engaging.

You could call me biased, but the third season is perhaps the strongest yet, given the series’s growth and continued excellence.

If not, Hacks just keeps getting better and better. I’d be lying if I said I’m not excited about what’s in the store for the upcoming season.

Hacks Season 3 Showcases Ava’s Growth

After parting ways with Deborah, Ava finds a new job that allows her to make a difference and write about the climate crisis.

Despite materialistic success, something feels like missing, and that void is definitely Deborah.

If you ask how Ava’s character has evolved, when we first met Ava, she was a young comedy writer who thought she was cool and progressive.

She reluctantly worked for Deborah, a seasoned performer at a long-running casino gig.

Ava’s arrogance and dismissiveness towards Deborah softened over time, and their bond became undeniable and unmatched.

Now, she has secured a job on a good comedy show, showcasing her dedication and growth in her craft, which shows her personal development.

If not, Deborah and Ava appear to be unable to quit each other. Similarly, Deborah, too, experiences character development, let alone Ava’s.

She has changed and embraced the newfound success as a more interesting performer, even starring in a Super Bowl commercial.

Their relationship weathered disagreements; however, their paths led them back together.

Hacks has reached new heights in its third season, disproving initial skepticism about the necessity of its continuation after a nearly perfect second-season finale.
