Michaela Stirling’s Inclusion Hints at the Potential Gay Plotline

Francesca Bridgerton and Michaela Stirling met at the Dankworth-Finch ball.

Michaela Stirling is a reimagined version of the original character Michael Stirling from Julian Quinn’s Bridgerton novels. Her introduction to the series has hinted at her possible.

In the books, Michael is a male character, but the series chose to introduce Michaela as a female character, indicating a potential queer romance plotline.

Although this character twist from the books has taken many by surprise, the series has been praised for its diversification of characters.

Portrayed by actress Masali Baduza, Michaela Stirling is described as John Stirling’s cousin and accompanies Francesca Bridgerton and John to Scotland.

Michaela Stirling’s Own Words Sparks Speculation of Queer Romance

The unanticipated introduction of Michaela Stirling in the series suggests she might be gay, given the storyline of the Bridgerton book.

In the book, John is set to die in two years, and years later, Francesca falls for John’s cousin Michael, who had been weaving feelings for her since their first meeting.

According to author Julia Quinn, Netflix is free to explore and experiment with the storyline.

However, the contractual commitments order the Bridgerton character to end up with their fixed partner.

Given the information mentioned above, there is a high chance that Francesca and Michaela, the gender-swapped version of Michael, fall for each other.

Also, Michaela’s own words hint that she has a mysterious and dark reality that no one knows about, as she says,

Every sordid detail John has told you about me is a lie. The truth is far worse.

This intriguing introduction in the final episode of Season 3, “Into the Light,” indicates Michaela’s significant role in this season.

In addition, their undeniable instant chemistry at the very first meeting paves the way for a potential relationship.

The twist will mark the first time queer romance in the Netflix series if Michaela and Francesca happen to fall for each other.

Actor Victor Alli, playing John Stirling, also hinted at a twist in the storyline in contrast to the books with the introduction of Michaela.

“It will take a lot of people by surprise,” Victor said about the character Michaela.

In addition, the actor revealed that the showrunner has made “some really strong decisions,” and he is more than excited for Michaela.

That said, it is yet to unfold whether Michaela is a queer character or not, bringing the unanticipated twist to the storyline.
